Community Support Program (Child and Adolescent)

The IWK Health Centre provides children and adolescents throughout the province with specialized mental health and addictions services. To learn more about these services visit the IWK Health Centre website.

The Community Support Program is for school aged children and adolescents registered with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health program. 

Community Support Program (Adults)

The community support program provides services and support to adults over 18 with persistent mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder or other Psychotic Disorders. 

This program provides short-and long-term flexible and individualized support services to those who may be facing challenges in their community. Community support workers and individuals work together to develop goals and plan for an eventual transition out of service.

Inpatient Mental Health

The Inpatient Mental Health unit provides care to those who are unable, because of the severity of their illness, to be treated in the community. Stays are intended to return patients to their optimal level of functioning. 

Willow Hall (Seniors)

Willow Hall is an inpatient unit for individuals over the age of 65 with a new onset of mental illness or for individuals of any age with dementia and complicated medical and/or psychological symptoms. 

Sleep Disorders Clinic

The sleep disorders clinic is for individuals who are referred by their family physician due to sleep disorders. It is made up of a team of doctors and technologists that specialize in sleep technology.

Simpson Landing

Simpson Landing offers 24 hours a day, seven days a week support for individuals with mental illness (such as Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder and Bipolar Disorder) who are having challenges living in the community. People stay at Simpson Landing for varying amounts of time to work on community living skills, improve their wellness and manage their illness. Simpson Landing has a full team of mental health professionals.

Rehabilitation Program (East Coast Forensic Hospital)

The rehabilitation program is for individuals who have been found Not Criminally Responsible (NCR) or unfit to stand trial by the Nova Scotia justice system. They are under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Code Review Board. These individuals are assessed, participate in treatment programs and work with their health care team to safely re-enter the community. 

Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

The psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) provides short-term stabilization for individuals that are already hospitalized and are extremely agitated and aggressive.

Qualified clinicians at the hospital provide assessment and treatment for individuals with mental illness. Once the individual’s illness has settled, arrangements will be made to have them return to the referring unit to continue their treatment process and safe return to the community.
