The cardiac surgery division of the Maritime Heart Centre is located in the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre on Robie Street in central Halifax. Surgeons that work  at the centre are responsible for patients from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (approximately 1.1 million people) They are also responsible for heart transplants and mechanical heart surgeries for all of Atlantic Canada (2.5 million people).

Family Physician: Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital (CEC)

An immediate locum opportunity is available for a Family Physician to join the Collaborative Emergency Centre (CEC) team at the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital.  This locum opportunity can be part-time or full-time and can last up to 6 months. The Family Physician provides care to patients in the Emergency Department, the family practice clinic, and on the inpatient unit as well as to the residents of the local nursing home. The CEC is supported by an EMR and the Family Physicians are generously compensated through an APP funding model.

The Rapid Access  Transient ischemic attack (TIA) and Stroke Secondary Prevention Clinic provides rapid assessment by a Nurse Practitioner (NP) of patients who have experienced transient stroke-like symptoms who present to the emergency department or in the primary health care setting.

Cardiovascular Risk Factor Clinic

The Cardiovascular Risk Factor Clinic is intended to help motivate and assist individuals and families to take responsibility for their own health through motivating self directed action plans to reach personal health goals.
The clinic provides information, counseling, exercise/ education based rehabilitation programs, and links clients with other resources and services available within South Shore Health and the community.

Offered at various times throughout the year within Cumberland County.  Volunteer registered nurses and lab techs check individuals’ blood pressure, blood glucose, HbA1C, BMI and waist circumference and meet with each participant to review and discuss the results.
