20th Annual Clinical Day in Cardiology Taking Place This Week in Sydney
The 20th Annual Clinical Day in Cardiology is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 9 at the Royal Bank Lecture Theatre at Cape Breton University in Sydney.
Clinical Day in Cardiology is designed to educate physicians and healthcare professionals from Cape Breton and throughout Nova Scotia. Experts from across the province and the Maritimes will present the latest information in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Mary Catherine MacSween will present this year’s Atlantic Cardiovascular Society (ACS) Lecture “Update on Diabetes for 2017”. Dr. MacSween works in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology with Moncton Hospital and is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie and Memorial Universities. She is also co-chair of the New Brunswick Diabetes Task Group. Diabetes has been a focus of this year's Atlantic Cardiovascular Society knowledge translation. Dr. MacSween will review treatment benefits for select agents and how to appropriately select which patient for which new treatment.
Other topics being covered during the day include: congestive heart failure, use of newer oral anticoagulants, patients with acute coronary symdrome and atrial fibrillation, case based review of ECGs, management of acute infarct or acute stroke, advances in lipidology, clinical concerns with medication and long QT syndrome, three clinically challenging cases and management of rapid atrial fibrillation in the emergency department and more.
