Library Services-Health SciencesLibraries are located at the Cape Breton Regional, Northside General, Glace Bay Health Care, New Waterford Consolidated, Buchanan Memorial, Inverness Consolidated Memorial, Sacred Heart and Victoria County Memorial hospitals. Almost all of these libraries are equipped with Internet access for the use of staff, students and physicians in furthering their hospital-related research and professional development. Reference texts, videos and journals are also available at each site. A mini-library focused on long-term care located at Taigh Na Mara. Library resources from any site can be lent throughout the District upon request. The Cape Breton Healthcare Complexis comprised of four site libraries that support the educational, research, patient care and service activities of the Complex. The four libraries providing information support for the Complex are as follows:
The Regional Library serves as the central library and houses a comprehensive collection of medical, nursing, allied health, health administration and management resources. A smaller core collection of books and journals are housed at the other sites.

Library Materials Librarian conducted searches are provided on topics pertinent to patient care, research, education, and health management. A literature request form is available. Computer WorkstationsComputer Workstations are available on each site for searching and retrieving literature from databases. Before going online, an “Internet Application Form” and “Internet User’s Agreement” must be completed followed by a brief orientation to the library computers. Additional in-services on Net searches and Cochrane Library are available. |
